Summer Reading for Elementary

Parents,

On the last day of school, the NCLA Falcon mascot and I enjoyed visiting classrooms and reminding the students to read over break. The summer slide can be apparent when students return to school if they are not continuing to read over the summer vacation. In an effort to keep summer reading fun and to offer choice in book selections, students in rising grades 1-4 will read books on their individual levels in each of the genre categories provided. The books they will select from Children’s books or some may be chapter books if they so desire and if it matches their reading level. However, please know it is not required for a student to read all chapter books of the ten required. It is totally their choice. After they read the selection, the student will color in the section of the falcon until it is filled. They will also write one of the four responses under that specific genre of book. Challenges are also listed for students who strive to do more than required on each book.

The reading pages are also attached, click here, for you to print from home if your child needs the pages that were
sent home on the last day of school. When the students return back to school in August, we have planned an incentive for the students who bring back the pages completed for rising 1-4 graders.

For the students entering 5th grade, an assignment has been posted on our webpage, click here. For these students, they can choose from that list for the assignment/book review posted. This is a separate assignment posted for rising 5th graders.

Thank you in advance for your support at home.

Happy Reading,

Amy C. Bland, Assistant Principal of Elementary
