Financial Aid Information

For those of you who were not able to attend the Financial Aid workshop that was hosted by Wake Forest University, here is a link to the slideshow.  In October, we will be hosting a working workshop to begin the financial aid application process.  We will have computers ready for you to log in and start the FAFSA.  If you would like a handout from last night, please stop by Mrs. Wood's office.

UNC Wilmington invites Juniors For a Campus Visit Day!

All high school juniors at The North Carolina Leadership Academy are cordially invited to attend the University of North Carolina Wilmington's visit days, Just Juniors, on February 26^th and March 18th. 

The program is designed to introduce prospective students to campus and the admissions process at UNCW. Sample sessions include:

• Academic  Panel with representatives from ( College of Arts & Sciences, Cameron School of Business, College of Health& Human Services, Watson College of Education)
• Question and Answer panel with Campus Involvement and Education Abroad
• Admissions overview and advice provided by Admissions Representatives
• Campus tours
• Financial aid sessions

Engineering and Construction Summer Camps

The Society of American Military Engineers, in collaboration with the Military Services, offers a series of engineering/STEM camps designed for High School students who excel in math, science and technology courses and are interested in pursuing engineering, architecture, or a related field in college.  These one-week camps are high energy, hands-on events for students from across the country and around the world.  The camps are led by professional staff of engineers from both private industry and the uniformed military services.  For more information, click here.

Meredith College Leadership Conference for High School Women!
Saturday, January 30, 2016, Meredith College will offer its annual women's leadership development conference for high school juniors.

Summer Opportunities!

It's not too soon to start planning for Summer 2016.  The Wake Forest University Summer Immersion Program offers rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors the chance to dive deep and explore a particular field of study. Those selected for the program will enjoy access to world-class faculty, resources, industry professionals and a one-of-a-kind view from inside a career field.

The 2016 Summer Immersion Program will be offered in Winston-Salem as a residential program and in Charlotte as a non-residential program. The Wake Forest Charlotte Campus will feature six institutes: Business and Entrepreneurship, Law, Leadership, Medicine, Sports Marketing,  andTechnology. Each session will feature a day trip to the Wake Forest University campus in Winston-Salem. The Winston-Salem residential program will offer two institutes: Business and Entrepreneurship and Medicine. Each institute will accept a select number of students. Tuition includes lunch, books and supplies, all institute-sponsored field trips and activities, as well as transportation.

High School Opportunity at UNC-Chapel Hill

Every year, the Catalyst Conference brings a selected group of 100 high school students from across North Carolina to UNC-CH for a weekend long exploration of social issues affecting both America and the larger world.  These 100 students will face a challenging task; they will be asked to view the world through the eyes of another and come to a realization of the underlying similarities that connect us all.

Crosby Scholars extends application deadline

Just wanted you all to know that Crosby Scholars has extended the application deadline to October 6th.  Crosby Scholars is open to 6-11th graders.  This program helps students prepare academically, financially and socially for college admission and post secondary opportunities. You can apply here.

Senior Trips are Announced!

Senior Trips are announced!
After much consideration, our upcoming senior trips are as follows:
June 2016, current 11th graders will travel to Costa Rica.
June 2017, current 10th and current 11th will travel to London, Paris, Venice, and Rome.

Trips are being planned in conjunction with EF tours who is the leading group travel organization globally, with over 500 offices worldwide and a 24/7 experienced Tour Director who will be with our group the entire time.
Deadline to sign up for Costa Rica is September, 30th.  Deadline for the trip to Europe can be stretched a little, but the price will increase by the end of October.

SAT and college related information

Ok Juniors, are you starting to wonder when you are supposed to start preparing for college admissions?  NOW!!!  You will all take the PSAT this year.  Juniors take the PSAT for two reasons, first, it allows them to prepare for the SAT, but second, it is what is used for National Merit Scholarship.
So, when should you take the SAT? Most students take the SAT at least once during their junior year of high school.

College fair allows students to interact with admissions reps from both in state and out of state colleges. Go prepared!  Take with you a list of questions you would like to ask regarding courses, admission requirements, and basic college life.  Find out about specific college visit days to different campuses and learn about possible scholarship opportunities.
Crosby Scholars must attend one of these nights as a requirement for their program.  Print the sheet from their website to take with you.
All NCLA students will receive 2 volunteer hours by completing an NCLA attendance form and having signatures from 4 different colleges.

Crosby Scholars

It's time to register for Crosby Scholars.  Students in grades 6-10 are eligible to register. It's simple to do, go to www.crosbyscholars.org and follow the prompts.The "Apply Now" tab is in the top right hand corner.  Crosby Scholars from last year do not need to re-apply.  Just make sure you visit your student portal and make sure to complete your community service hours.
