The Big Serve is Coming!

The BIG SERVE is almost here and we need your help collecting the materials listed below. We are trying to either get items donated or at reduced cost - so that the awesome volunteers of the BIG SERVE can complete several HUGE projects at The NCLA. We hope to create two raised planter beds on the front side of the school which will help to beautify that area. We also will add some nice landscaping to the area between the new modular unit and the school building. Finally, we plan to build edging for the student garden planters and add crushed stone pathways in Falcon Yard! This will allow our teachers and students to start using the planters which will offer all kinds of hands-on, experiential learning opportunities.

IMG_6805.JPGThe BIG SERVE will be on October 3 and 10 starting at 8 am on both days. All materials will need to be delivered to the school by Wednesday, Sept. 30th. Please consider either purchasing an item yourself, or if you have any business connections that might possibly donate materials or offer great deal, let me know! If you are willing to contact some local vendors to solicit donations, email me first and I will publish a running list so we can avoid duplicate efforts. If you have ANY questions about the materials or the BIG SERVE, please feel free to contact me, Leigh Davis, at leighdavis@triad.rr.com. And if you would like to join in on the fun and serve alongside some great folks, we would love to have your help. There will be more information coming regarding how you can help Be the Difference, too!

The BIG SERVE is a church-wide effort that takes place every year in the Fall. The Summit Church, along with over 20 other churches, want to Be the Difference in our community by serving others and accomplishing great things for thousands of people. “Each year, we see schools transformed, the broken-hearted encouraged, hope infused into local non-profits, and families working together to serve.”

Last year, the BIG SERVE team that served at The NCLA worked very hard to install eleven shade trees AND spread 12 yds of topsoil, 29 yds of screened dirt, and 39 yards of hardwood mulch. They also pulled weeds all over our property, picked up trash, and spread grass seed and straw.
