Volunteering With Kids in the Triad

Volunteering with children teaches empathy, gratitude, and action orientation. It allows busy parents to be involved in their communities while spending time with their children. But finding a place to volunteer with children can be challenging.

The NCLA Prepares for Heels for Success Program

Heels for Success is a one-day summer program to help academically-talented, rising sophomores and juniors at the NCLA to prepare for college.

Over the course of the day, students that participate will learn techniques for approaching the ACT, explore the UNC campus, and see its wide-ranging academic opportunities, as well as learn how to manage the college application process. Participants also get the chance to connect with other outstanding students from across the country. This program is free to the NCLA students, provided they have transportation to and from the campus event. How do you nominate a student? To nominate your outstanding students, simply direct them to the Heels for Success website

The website contains instructions on how to apply and a link to the application. The deadline for submitting applications is February 28, 2015 and students are asked to be prepared to self-report their courses and grades on the application.

Who is eligible for nomination? Heels for Success is designed for high achieving rising sophomores and juniors. Students should be academically motivated, rank in the top 10% of their class, and should show active involvement in extracurricular activities.

When will students know if they have been selected?
Students will be emailed UNC's decision by April 30, 2015.

Please direct any questions to Mrs. Wood prior to February 28th, 2015.
